Keb Cerda takes his exploration of possibilities with new media and painting in a new solo show to open this July. This time, he comes up with a video game using his paintings as battlegrounds. The game draws on a popular mechanics of collecting bounties in the form of virtual gold coins. Using a mobile application developed for his works, viewers become gamers as they navigate spectacular painted scenes of wreckage, ruins, caves, mountains, and factories—all fitting sites for a thrilling gaming adventure . The exhibition continues the artist’s preoccupation with the links between aggression and violence with economy, and highlights trade and possession of gold as igniting wars and armed conflict.
